“Do you have feelings for him?” She wipes the tears from the corner of her eyes.
“No, other than that it was the best sex I’ve ever had. I don’t even know the guy.”
“Then you need to focus on the job and not the boss.”
“You’re right. His employees say he’s barely there. Maybe I can avoid him when he is there. Besides, I’ve been without sex before, I can do it again.”
“That’s the spirit. You may want to restock your battery supply.” A suppressed giggle bubbles to the surface, setting both of us laughing this time. She always has a way of making me feel better.
“I’m starved. Let’s order pizza.” I start toward my room to change out of my work clothes.
“If you’re not going to sleep with him then can I?” The couch pillow zooms by me.
“No, you may not!” I slam my bedroom door.
Morning comes way too early. Sleep never came, so I left for work early and hit the coffee shop on the bottom floor of our building before making my way up to my office. Several people are already tucked away at their desks working like busy bees. I get settled in my office and jump back into my network research.
I study my computer for any breaches. There were several attempts made, but the firewall shut them down. I log in some computer codes to backtrack and locate the hackers. Most of them appear to be amateurs playing a game to see what they are capable of doing. One is a credit card company, looking to steal information. I program in new codes to block them from entering our system.
One of them, however, is a bit more elusive. I blow a lock of hair out of my face and dig deeper, oblivious to my surroundings. My fingers absentmindedly strum on the desk while my brain kicks into overdrive. I take out a piece of paper and jot down runs of codes. It doesn’t make any sense. I excitedly click my pen. In, out, in, out.
“Are you taking a break anytime soon?”
I nearly jump out of my chair, not sensing Connor standing next to me looking over my shoulder. “Damn, how long have you been standing there?” I whirl my chair around.
“Long enough to know that you talk to yourself and the deeper in thought you get, you have a crease… right there that draws together.” His index finger touches between my eyes.
I draw away from him. “Do you make a habit of coming into rooms unannounced?” His close proximity has me feeling warm.
“My curiosity got the better of me when I kept hearing a clicking sound.” He walks around to the front of my desk, shoving his hands into his trouser pockets.
I lay the pen down. “I think if I’m going to continue to work here, we need to set some boundaries.” I cross my legs.
“Like how many times a week I can fuck you?” A dark, seductive smile shadows his face.
I clear my throat, trying to prevent a lustful sound from seeping out. “No. I mean like boundaries of you not saying stuff like that. You’re my boss and I’m your employee.” I clasp my hands together on my desk.
He leans way forward. “You like when I talk dirty don’t you?”
My head screams yes. “No, and I don’t think you are grasping what I’m saying.
He stands abruptly and chuckles. “You say no, but your entire body answered yes.”
I get up from my chair, walking around him to shut my door.
“Now we’re talking,” he smiles.
“No we’re not. Look, I’m attracted to you, but that’s it. Nothing more. We don’t know one another and I’d like to keep our relationship professional. This is my first real job and I don’t want to lose it before I’ve even started. I don’t need my co-workers to think there is anything going on between us.”
He chews on his bottom lip. “We could get to know one another.” He suddenly looks vulnerable.
“Yes, we could, but we still need to keep our relationship professional.”
He takes a step closer to me. “I don’t know if I can do that with you.”
“Why not?” I scan his eyes, trying to figure out if he is serious or not.
“I don’t know, but I can’t get you out of my head. I want you more every time I lay eyes on you.” He doesn’t blink.
I don’t dare tell him I feel the same way. “We can’t.” I take a step back. “As long as I’m working for you, I need to keep my distance.”
“I could fire you.”
“You could.” I don’t waver.
“Alright, you win.” He walks out and I unleash the breath I was holding.
That was so terribly difficult. I wanted nothing more than to let him fuck me on the desk, blinds or no blinds on my windows. I shake it off and go back to work.
A few minutes later I hear the door at the end of the hall slam and Connor stomps by my office without looking my direction. I guess I made myself clear - too bad my body doesn’t understand.
I refocus my thoughts on my work. The hacker has done an excellent job of covering his tracks. Not even a clue was left behind about what they were looking for in our system. I make notes and continue with my security system checks. Before I know it, the day is over. Connor never returned to his office and I’m slightly disappointed, but I’m better off with him not coming into my office any time he feels like it.
The streets are bustling with people ending their days. When I can’t hail a cab, I decide to walk over several blocks to the subway station. Every face in the crowd surrounding me seems lost in his or her own world. Across the street, I catch a glimpse of Connor entering a building. He’s wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt. The sign on the building is small and hard to read, but as I squint I can distinguish the black letters: “Kid Power.” No logo, only a small sign.
He smiles at a woman with long, slender legs walking towards him in a black, fitted dress. She’s carrying a gym bag on her shoulder. A twinge of jealousy hits me when he kisses her on the cheek.
The walk signal flashes from the other side of the street, unknown to me as I stare at Connor until the crowd bumps into me from behind.
“Sorry,” I say, and walk to the other side. When I turn around to look again, he’s gone.
The subway doors are closing just as I run up to them. I pull my phone out of my purse and search for the name on the building. Kid Power brings up several links, and it takes several minutes of searching to find the right one. It’s a self-defense business, specializing in kids ages eight to twenty-one.
Why would Connor be there? I know he’s not married, at least I don’t think he is. Maybe he has a daughter. A Google search of his name reveals several articles naming him one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors, but nothing about an ex-wife. Very strange. I’m not sure what to make of it.
I lean my head against the window and close my eyes. I want to ask him about it. Mainly, I want to ask about the woman, but I have no right. I made my own bed when I set down boundaries with him. Me delving into his personal life would cross the line I drew between us.
Chapter 5
I’ve been racking my brain all week trying to figure out this one code in the computer. It’s repeated several times. It doesn’t look like any hack I’ve seen before. It looks almost like a reverse hack, as if someone on the inside is trying to get information out. I swivel in my chair to gaze out over the night lights of the city.
Jewels went out of town for the weekend, I’m working late, by choice. I’ve been so busy with meetings this week, I haven’t had time to look at my files. Connor hasn’t been in the office since the day he stormed out.
I hear the elevator doors ping open, and suddenly I’m a little frightened being in this big office by myself. I reach in my drawer and grab the small handgun out of my purse, then quickly turn off my office light and hide behind my door. A dark shadow appears at the far end of the hallway. My clammy hands grip the gun. My heart races near explosion speed. The dim motion-sensor lights low on the wall come on one by one as I hear soft tapping of shoes coming in my direction.
Holding my breath, I watch the slow turn of my doorknob. I shu
t my eyes tight and jump out of hiding with my gun held tightly as the light flickers on. The next thing I know, the gun is snatched out of my hand, my arm is twisted behind my back and my face is kissing the window. My body is pinned by a hard body behind me.
“What the hell are you doing, Reese?”
A familiar voice causes goosebumps to raise on my skin. My voice quivers. “I thought there was some crazed madman breaking into the office.”
His nose runs the length of my neck and he inhales my scent. “I’m crazed alright and maybe even a little mad at you. But, sweetheart, I can guarantee you I’m all man.” He presses his hard length against me.
My hunger for him ignites like little fire crackers rushing down my, body stopping at my core. All the adrenaline pumping through my veins screams for a release. Connor jerks me around, but pins my hands above my head. His eyes glance at my heaving chest. He dips his head down and unbuttons my top button with his mouth.
“You could have killed me.” His voice is dark and hypnotic.
I suddenly don’t care if he’s my boss. “You scared the shit…”
He lets go of one wrist and covers my mouth with his hand. “Now that you know it’s me, your body went from terrified to lust in zero point two seconds.”
He’s right. I can’t deny my reaction to him. My tongue darts out, licking my lips, and I close the distance between our faces, but he pulls back slightly.
“Not until you say you want me.” His hand gently skims down my body.
My swallowing increases as my mouth struggles to form the words he wants to hear. My body is speaking volumes and he’s very aware of it.
“Find your words, Reese. I need to hear them.” His eyes are now firm on mine.
“I want you.” My voice sounds raspy.
His chest rises as he inhales deeply. I think he’s going to fuck me up against the wall right there, but he takes my hand in his and storms with me down the hallway to the conference room. He doesn’t turn on the lights. He leaves the door open so the soft security lights flow into the room.
“Take off your clothes,” he says, already removing his.
He’s not even touched me and I’m already dripping with need for him to be inside me. When we are both naked, he places his hands on my hips, picking me up to sit on the edge of the hard table. My nipples perk up as his gaze takes me in.
“You are so fucking perfect.” His fingers tweak my nipple as his mouth swallows my moan. My thighs clinch him tighter to me. I feel his cock twitch between us. His lips draw down my jawline, descending until his tongue and teeth are flicking my nipple between them. I arch back, pulling his hair.
He growls and pushes me down against the table. His nips continue their decent to my soft belly. My body softens and I can feel the flush of my skin down to the soft lips of my opening. A needy throb has my greedy hands reaching for his cock. He stops me, grasping my wrist.
“Tell me you want me to taste you.” His voice is so intimate, I can’t help but be drawn into his own desire.
“I want you to taste me,” I almost hiss.
He spreads my legs and his tongue lashes out at my folds. “Where do you want me to taste you?”
I can’t find the words. I’ve never talked dirty in my life. My fingers trail down my body until I find my hard nub.
He lets out a deep throaty chuckle. “If you can’t tell me, then show me with your fingers.”
His dirty mouth has my wetness pooling between my legs. I slide my fingers in and out of myself a couple of times. Just when I think he is going to give me what I want, he slowly draws my finger into his mouth, tasting where my finger had been.
The look in his eye is dangerous to my body. I know instinctively that he is not going to be gentle and yet my body softens to him. He jerks my hand away and his face is between my legs, licking and sucking me in. He doesn’t pull away from me until I’m screaming his name.
His thrust into me is deep and hard, scraping my body against the table. He moves with me until his body is covering mine. My head slightly dangles off the end. I wrap my legs around his hips, wanting him deeper. He leans up on his hands and draws one knee up, sinking further inside me. We find a tortuous rhythm that syncs us together. There is no soft glide in and out. Each drive of his cock has meaning. He’s filling me, claiming me from the inside out. My body willingly draws him in from pure need alone. As my orgasm starts to take over a loud moan escapes. He doubles his effort and moves my body further up the table as my nails bite into his back to hold on. I ride out my tide of pleasure, dragging my nails further into his skin. He arches up, hissing, but doesn’t stop driving into me until his own twitching stops.
I let my head fall back as my body goes limp beneath him. I can still feel the pulsating of our bodies where they are connected. His breathing evens out as he lays his head on my chest. I rub my hand along his back, feeling the raised ridges of his skin. I should feel bad, but I don’t. I love that he brought out the passion in me.
He climbs off the table, taking me with him, until I’m in a sitting position with him between my legs. His large hand runs through my hair. “What the hell are you doing to me?”
I could ask him the same question. My need for him overtook my brain. “I don’t know, but you do the same to me,” I whisper.
“I stayed away from you all week so this wouldn’t happen. The minute I touched you, I knew I couldn’t stop it.”
“I wasn’t much help in that department,” I giggle. I hop off the table and start putting my clothes back on. “What are we going to do?”
“We are going to act normal at work and then you’re going to come home with me every night.”
“I don’t think that is such a good idea.” I fasten my skirt.
“So, you want to stay here late and fuck every night?”
“No. I’m saying, I don’t even really know you, and you are my boss.”
He zips his pants then stands in front of me. “I think we know each other pretty well. His eyes roam over my body.
“Clearly we know each other in the carnal form. I want to know the man in here.” I lay my hand on his chest.
He tugs me flush with his body. “I rather like the carnal form.”
“I’m not denying that I do too, but this isn’t my style. I don’t just fuck strange men.”
“I beg to differ. You have twice now.” His shit-eating grin covers his handsome face.
“What’s so wrong with wanting to get to know you?” I run my hand down his chiseled jaw.
“That’s not my style, but for you, I would be willing to try.”
“Really?” My voice raises an octave.
“We could go out on a date, do something fun.”
“I don’t want anyone here to know that we are seeing one another.”
“You know this is my company and I don’t give a damn what people think.”
“But I do. I have to work with them and I don’t care to be the office gossip.”
“Okay. You win. We’ll keep it professional at the office.” He looks past me at the conference table. “I don’t know that I will be able to work in here again without a telltale smile on my face.”
“Yeah, that may be a little difficult,” I laugh.
He takes my hand and walks me back to the office. “What were you doing here so late, anyway?” he asks, picking up my gun off the floor.
“I was working on a hack that has me stumped.”
He examines my gun and hands it back to me. “You know the safety was still on, right?”
“Yeah, I don’t think I could actually kill someone. I only wanted to scare whoever it was.”
“You need to learn some self-defense moves. All that thing is going to do is get you killed. It’s too easy to take away from you.”
I walk up to him and grab his ass. “Maybe some big strong guy can show me his moves.”
“I believe I just did that. His lips smack against mine. “That being said, I don’t want you working here a
t night by yourself. If you need help with a hack, bring it to me and we can figure it out together.”
“Someone actually has to work here for me to do that.” I grab my purse to follow him out. Instead of heading for the elevator he walks to his office.
“Aren’t we leaving?” I point toward the exit.
“Yeah. I came here because I needed a file out of my desk, but some lunatic tried to shoot me and I got distracted,” he says, teasing me. He opens his office and digs a key out of his pocket. The lights automatically come on.
A large mahogany desk sits to one side, guarded by matching filing cabinets lining the wall behind it. He rolls his plush leather chair out of the way and unlocks the small drawer in the middle of his desk, retrieving a manila folder. “I got what I need, now let’s get you home.”
He walks me to the door of my apartment and watches me with an interested expression as I nervously fumble for my keys. I don’t know whether I’m anxious about him seeing my personal space or the thought of what he has in store for me.
I unlock the door and bolt inside. When I turn around, he has his hands braced on the outside of the doorframe. “Aren’t you coming inside?” I ask, laying my keys down.
He shakes his head twice. “No. I will come back here tomorrow and take you out to have some fun.”
I laugh. “Your body says yes, but your words say no,” I mimic his words from earlier.
“I could come inside and fuck you until morning. But you said you wanted to get to know me, so I’m playing your game now, sweetheart.”
I can’t argue with his logic. Instead I walk up to him and kiss him on the cheek. “Then I shall see you tomorrow.” He drops his hands to his sides and I shut the door.
Chapter 6
My mouth waters as I gape at him in my doorway. His low-riding jeans fit nicely on his muscular frame. The casual white t-shirt he has on makes him look much younger than his stuffy suits and button downs.
“Has anyone ever told you that you have the most beautiful emerald eyes?” He seizes me into his arms. “But I like them when they turn forest green because it means you’re turned on,” he says as he brushes his lips against mine.
